Queen’s Diamond
Jubilee Clock Tower

A unique monument for
Minehead seafront

Marking the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne, the Jubilee Clock Tower will be located on Minehead’s seafront promenade area opposite the West Somerset Railway station.

The unique design will carry a four sided display at a height of 8.50 metres, three sides of which will be clocks and the fourth a display of current tide times. Anyone arriving in Minehead will see the tower not only as a means of knowing the time, but also as an easily identified meeting place, complete with radial seating. It will be constructed in stainless steel which will render it virtually maintenance free. Minehead Town Council has agreed to take over any maintenance that will be necessary once the Clock Tower has been constructed. Click here to go to our Plans page for more details of the location and construction of the tower.

An appeal fund has been set up to receive donation towards the project. Anyone donating £30 or more can have a name etched for perpetuity on the base of the clock tower. This could be their own name, that of a loved one, children, grandchildren or anyone special, and will be there for years to come. Why not celebrate the birth of a new baby by adding their name to the Clock Tower? A gift that will last a lifetime! To find out more about donating to the appeal click here to go to our Donation page.

A number of fundraising events are planned now that 2012 - the Jubilee year - is here! The next event is a Coffee morning (10am-12:30pm) on Friday 4th May at Shute Farm, St Michaels Road, Minehead.

We held our first fundraising event on the evening of July 15th 2011, with a concert, entitled ‘Jubilee Jazz’, given by Jazz musician, Geoff Nichols and his Good Vibes band. This was followed by a Cream Tea Party and a Tea Dance, both of which were a great success. We held a 4-mile walk at the end of September, coinciding with some of the best autumn weather on record! The local Rainbow, Brownies and Guide groups supported the Clock Tower appeal with three stalls in the Minehead Methodist Hall during Minehead's late night shopping event on Friday 25th November. Our Scottish evening (‘A Soiree with a Celtic Flavour’) on 28th January, attracted 60 people and raised £225.

The Minehead Male Voice Choir held a concert on our behalf on Saturday, 18th February, in the Avenue Methodist Church, Minehead which was a resounding success, raising £510.
See our News page for details of past events and more information about the Clock Tower.
